8 Spring Outerwear Trends to Shop, Inspired by the Runways | Vogue

Although spring’s inventive handbag and shoe trends typically cause more of a stir, jackets are arguably one of the best parts of the season. After months of bundling beneath more layers than we can count, adding a lightweight (and importantly not overpowering) topper to your look is a welcome reprieve, and a fresh opportunity to up your style. This year, if the runways are any indication, spring’s outerwear, in a range of new shapes and iterations, is about to become one of the season’s key wardrobe staples. That’s why we’re advocating for a jacket-first dressing approach for spring.

From New York to Paris, new jackets arrived on the Spring 2025 runways in droves. The return of the bomber jacket was notable—seen in red suede at Prada and in shiny black leather at The Row. Appearing at JW Anderson in the form of a puffed-up hoodie and at Alexander McQueen in a sharp-waisted peplum, leather jackets shapeshifted as well. Trenches, too, got a makeover, showing up on the runways cropped to the waist, or long and sweeping the floor. And continuing in spring’s sportif direction, this season we saw track jackets and anoraks at Miu Miu and Prada. Perhaps most surprisingly, we saw the return of the cape, championed by the likes of Chloé, Gucci, and Loewe.
